Join our chorus of peace
Over the past week, I have been contacted by hundreds of party members, appalled by the tragedy unfolding in Palestine, urging our party to stand up for peace. That is why I have decided to form this campaign - to represent the unrepresented.
Every human life is sacred – Israeli and Palestinian – and should be protected from violence. These are the basic principles that I had always thought united our Party. But now we have realised that we must fight for these basic principles to unite us going forward.
We have seen leaders, who claim to represent us, rule out the commitment to a ceasefire which would put an end to the terrible violence, open up the opportunity for talks and a move towards a peaceful solution.
According to Save the Children, 40 per cent of civilian casualties in Gaza have been children. Above all else, children have the right to grow up without fear, violence and death. Collective punishment of innocent children cannot ever be justified.
How many more children must die before our Party advocates for peace?
It is time for change. It is time to end mealy mouthed politics. It is time for political triangulation to change. It is now that there is time for honesty - we need a politics of peace.
Join me in putting forward an honest politics, a politics of peace and a politics of change.
I will use your backing to take a motion to the National Executive Committee and open up debate at the highest level of the Party on ceasefire.
